Abstract

The discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and the analytical wavelet transform (AWT) are proposed to use for investigating the structure of the signals with peculiarities. Wavelet analysis of the simple real models of such signals in the time domain was carried out analytically and numerically. The DWT was used for analysis of the model signals with peculiarities. Using the criterion of the expansion entropy minimization, the optimal wavelet basis for DWT was selected for each model signal. The model signal was recovered from discrete wavelet spectrum using different number of the level of expansion. The phase characteristic of the wavelet spectrum obtained during AWT was shown to be preferable for detection of weekly pronounced signal peculiarities. The continuous wavelet transform, DWT and AWT, being mutually complementary, are recommended to use simultaneously.
