Abstract

The influence of fluctuations in the galactic cosmic background
intensity on the accuracy of determining the spectral characteristics
of ionospheric scintillations of discrete cosmic sources
(DCS) is analyzed. A novel technique is suggested to decrease
this effect on the results of recovering the characteristics of
ionospheric scintillations from data of DCS observations by
imaging HF riometers. The method is based on cross-correlation
processing of outputs from the riometer adjacent beams. The
operability and efficiency of the suggested technique are illustrated
by the results of in-situ measurements made using the
64-beam riometer located near the Gakona Village (Alaska, USA).
