Inverse Transmission Problem for Plane Electromagnetic Wave with Normal Incidence onto a Layered Dielectric Structure
Abstract
We discuss a one-dimensional inverse problem of electromagnetic wave transmission through a layered dielectric structure, which is to be identified from the absolute values of the transmission coefficient for a plane wave of normal incidence measured in a bounded frequency bandwidth. A reason of non-uniqueness in the inverse problem of recovering the unknown structure parameters is explained. Methods of measurement and data processing are suggested that allow to identify uniquely the structure parameters based on frequency dependence of absolute values of transmission coefficients obtained in two separate experiments using a reference dielectric slab.
